In which Arn is a guest of the Elves, a people he knew only from myth and legend.
Arn Kalapunki is brought by Balathu and a few Windhaven guards to an Elven forge that belongs to the smith Faraza.
Arn Kalapunki shows Ulvetann to the smith, and the spear begins to whisper to Arn. He gives Faraza the spearhead, and accepts the task of reforging it in exchange for taking Faraza’s forging hammer to a ironstone circle which is doing psychic damage to Faraza. Arn takes the vow to 04: Break the Spell Plaguing Faraza
Arn Kalapunki travels towards the ironstone henge circle. He had to pass through a dense, thorny thicket, which cut his pack and water skin resulting in a loss of resources. Soon thereafter he found the circle: a henge of ironstone pillars at the bald top of an otherwise forested hill. He arrives as night falls and see an alter in the center of the circle.
Arn Kalapunki places the hammer on the alter and recites the Elvish incantation he was taught. He is distracted at the last by one of the standing stones cracking which causes him to mispronounce the last words. This causes a blast of mystic energy to emanate from the alter and strike him. He is, however, generally successful and leaves the circle with the [n:Faraza‘s hammer.
Arn Kalapunki decides to attempt to break the circle by pushing over a stone that was already partly damaged, perhaps allowing the Elves to enter at will. The pillar lands on the alter and shatters it into three large pieces, desecrating it.
The circle, as it turns out, was not only repelling the Elves, but helping to hide their settlement. With the circle destroyed and its power gone, Thaugolos was alerted to the location of Windhaven, who immediately descended upon the settlement with flame and destruction.
