In which Arn and the Elves face Thaugolos in a fight for the village and their very lives.
Thaugolos is attacking from the air, Elvish arrows rain through the air but to no avail as Thaugolos’s armor is too much for them. Ulvetann begins whispering with the spirit of Vestlidi to Arn Kalapunki, causing him to become Blade-Bound with it.
Arn taunts Thaugolos with the spear yelling, “Thaugolos see me, who you have hunted these years. I’m here! Come and get me!” Thaugolos sees the spear but does not take Arn’s bait.
In a second attempt Arn has Balathu lead a group of Elven archers into an open area to draw Thaugolos in. Arn climbs into the highest tree he could find and lay in wait for the dragon to take this new bait. Thaugholos swoops in to attack the archers, and Arn, taming his fear, leaps onto the winged beast’s back.
Clinging on for his life, Arn plunges Thaugolos into the dragon’s hide. Thaugolos roars in absolute anger, forgets about the Elves below, and begins twisting around in mid-air in an attempt to shake Arn .. but Arn hangs on. The dragon begins to climb, and to save himself Arn leaps off … and misses any purchase on passing trees, causing him to fall hard into the ground, taking great injury.
With his remaining energies, Arn holds aloft the blade and croaks out a hoarse battlecry: “Thaugolos, the Wolf’s Tooth stands ready to bite AGAIN!” Thaugolos in a rage dives at Arn and the Elves, bellowing forth fire. Arn cries for the Elves to scatter, and most (though not all) do avoid the flames.
Thaugolos slams into the earth, landing in front of Arn, looking directly at Arn with hateful eyes, saliva dripping from his jaws, melting the snow where it lands. “Thaugolos,” Arn says, “you recognize this, don’t you. This is the Wolf’s Tooth! Flee this place and never return lest you feel the bite of Ulvetann once more!” Thaugolos paces around Arn menacingly deciding what to do, Arn does not give pause, however, and runs at the dragon with Ulvetann driving it deep into its flesh.
Thaugolos fights back with a gout of fire, which Arn manages to evade the worst of … yet what he does suffer is enough to render him unconscious. Thaugolos wheels away into the air, and with Arn out of the way, he finishes the razing of Windhaven, then does a final pass to deal with the pest that has found a way to hurt it. However, Arn has pulled himself to safety along with the surviving Elves .. and Thuagolos retreats to the North to its lair to nurse its wounds and return to fight another day.
Balathu curses Arn for the destruction of the village, naming him Arn HavensBane, Enemy of the Elves. Arn tries to reason with him, that with Ulvetann they can defeat Thaugolos if they work together. Balathu rejects his pleading, replying, “Do no presume to ever cross our paths again intentionally, Arn Havensbane.. For you, you have destroyed us.”
