In which Arn makes his way North through the Hinterlands as an unknown threat hunts him and he deals with the perils of the Ironland wilds.
Arn Kalapunki begin his journey north, leaving the Deep Wilds … the days go by.
He arrives at a hunting ground and is alerted to a potential threat as he sees signs of gnawed bones .. but he continues on, knowing that there is a large predator in the area. He comes to the river headwaters and as he leave it behind he becomes lost in the wilderness in a dense thicket.
Clearing a pathway for himself, he comes across sticky webbing in the dense growth. Taken aback, he looks around and notices that there are these oblong “rocks” .. but they are moving .. and above him is a massive sprawl of webbing which he had initially mistaken for an overcast sky.
One of the “rocks” hatches … and a spider as big as his hand emerges. It is the only first, as many more hatch. A shadow is cast over him, and he sees the giant Harrowspider above returning to its brood.
As the days pass, the people of Frostmoor slowly emerge from their illnesses, with friends and families reuniting. Arn Kalapunki, now a local hero and with a bond established, heals up and restocks his supplies.
Unknown to him, however .. he is being hunted .. as he begins his journey to the Hinterlands.
He attacks the Harrowspider with his bow as it reaches down towards him with its mandibles. The barrage of arrows fly past the spider, with those that do hit do absolutely nothing to it.
The hatchlings crawl over him and begin to attack, and the giant spider crashes down near him. Arn draws his spear but can not get purchase as it moves around and strikes him, leaving him on the edge of survival. The spear Ulvetann begins speaking to Arn, urging him to let it taste the spider’s blood.
Arn manages to roll out of the way of its web and it chases after him, but he is able to scamper away, poison coursing through his body, and the spider crashes into a boulder. Arn drives the spear deep into the creature and it shrieks, falling onto its back, legs twitching in death throws. Its hatchlings scatter.
Arn manages to keep his wits having used the mystic spear … and finds an antivenom bearing herb, allowing him to muscle pass the spider’s poison. This gives him enough time to use some of his supplies to heal up some.
Arn Kalapunki comes across a longhouse with a palisade atop a stone wall. It is obviously an Ironlanders, by its construction. The trees around it has been cleared. A family is outside, and he reveals himself, asking for lodging. They put him up for a few days, giving him time to recuperate.
However, that which hunts him has discovered the site of the spider battle .. and heads closer.
Arn, meaningwhile, continues on northward to the Hinterlands until he comes to a waterfall. He climbs up to it, hoping to find a river he can follow Northwards. As he reaches the top, he finds a river that runs straight as an arrow Northwards … and he finds a helpful clue forward .. in Episode 13!
